Therapy Goals

As in all therapy, there are goals in trauma therapy.

Therapy GoalsSome possible goals¬†are to reduce the hyperarousal state by moving from re-experiencing the trauma events to “remembering” events in order to reduce triggering anxiety, panic, irritability, numbing, avoidance and control.

The next large goal of trauma therapy is learning to live in relationships without the control and above symptoms. This takes a real reorganization of the self in relationship to self as well as relationship with others.
